Castor & Tallow Shampoo Bar
Castor & Tallow Shampoo Bar
Enjoy the gentle, sudsy, moisturizing nature of this tallow, olive oil, and castor oil shampoo bar - great for hair AND body. This shampoo bar is great for those who want to ditch modern liquid detergent shampoos (full of phthalates, sulfates & parabens) and are ready to switch over to an extremely naturally healthy and minimal soap that cleans well, but moisturizes at the same time. No conditioner needed with this shampoo, (though every person and their routine is different).
This bar is slightly more alkaline in its pH compared to the Tallow Bar Soap, making it effective to remove extra oil from the scalp (but not strip), while also adding healthy fats to the scalp with the olive oil, castor oil and tallow in this soap. This bar is amazing for those with dry hair/scalp, and can be great for those with normal/oily hair in conjunction with an occasianal apple cider vinegar rinse.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
For those with Normal and Oily Hair/Scalp - I recommend using an apple cider vinegar rinse once a week with this soap for the first few months you use this bar. Please see the section below about "IMPORTANT NORMAL/OILY HAIR RECOMMENDATIONS" for a deeper explanation.
For those with Dry Hair/Scalp - This is the bar for you. Because of the 3 healthy fats this bar contains, this bar of soap not only supports the oils your scalp produces for a reason, but also infuses extra lipids that come inside this shampoo bar - castor oil, olive oil and grass-fed tallow.
----------
Safe for babies, children, and adults. Great for those who suffer from acne, eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, sensitive skin, or most any dermatitis.
Tallow - Packed with natural vitamin A/D/E/K, tallow creates a gentle and creamy lather, and makes for a really hard and long lasting bar of soap.
Castor oil - Boosts lather with its thick, foamy properties and acts as a natural humectant, which draws moisture to the skin.
Olive oil - A highly moisturizing oil that adds a conditioning effect to the hair, which avoids stripping the hair of too much natural oil.
-----------
Also Great For:
Washing the Body - The bubbly and sudsy nature of this soap gives it a very effective (but non stripping) cleaning power for the heavier oils of the body, body hair and facial hair.
Great for shaving - The sudsy nature of this bar, paired with the rich fats from the castor oil, olive oil and tallow make for a slick, slippery shave medium.

IMPORTANT NORMAL/OILY HAIR RECOMMENDATIONS
IMPORTANT NORMAL/OILY HAIR RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR NORMAL/OILY HAIR:
I highly recommend using an apple cider vinegar rinse once a week while you first use this soap.
Because of the slightly higher alkaline nature of this saponified soap, paired with this soap's ability to support the scalp's own oils, as well as the healthy fats this bar of soap contains, this soap may create a more alkaline environment in your hair/scalp, which can create some slight dandruff for a small number of people. Let me explain:
When there is an excess of lipids in the hair (oils, aka fats), the microbiome of the hair/scalp feeds off these lipids, and then releases oleic acid, which can sometimes irritate the scalp, creating dryness which manifests as what we call "dandruff". This may only occur for a small number of users, but can be the only slight drawback with the use of natural soaps.
When you use an apple cider vinegar rinse, you are adding a more acidic environment to your hair, combatting the alkaline environment that may come from those who have extra oil buildup due to the natural state of their hair paired with the use of this soap.
ACV (apple cider vinegar) Rinse Ratio - For every 1 cup of water, add 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. I like to mix this in a small pot, where I add 2 cups of hot water, and then add 6 tablespoons of ACV. I'll bring it in the shower with me, and at the end of my shower, ill slowly pour a little on my scalp (be sure to avoid your eyes), and start to massage it into my scalp. Ill do this over and over again until ive used it all. I'll sightly rinse out my hair at the end, but like to leave a bit of the ACV rinse in my hair to have effect on the scalp.
And voila - this is a great way to balance the pH of your hair while using this shampoo bar if you naturally have normal/oily hair, without having to use the harsh, industrial detergents that are modern shampoos and conditioners.
This is chemistry at its finest. The reason you usually don't have to do this with modern liquid shampoos is that they are more neutrally balanced in their pH because of their harsh, liquid, synthetically derived additives like the pthalates, parabens, and sulfates. While these may create a more neutral pH, these ingredients are major endocrine disruptors and are a major piece to modern hair loss.
I would still highly recommend a natural shampoo bar like this soap shown on this page. Those with normal/oily hair MIGHT have to include this ACV as a way to balance the pH in a natural, healthy way. Keyword: might. Most will not need to do this, but this is just great info to know.
HOW TO USE
HOW TO USE
- Wet hair
- Rub the bar against your head
Thats it. Wet your hair and rub the shampoo bar against your hair and the suds and bubbles will begin to lather up.
Literally rub the bar of soap on your head. A little goes a long way!
The alkaline nature of the soap interacts well with the oils of the scalp or skin, allowing for the soap to create a sudsy, bubbly lather. If you simply try to scrub the soap between your palms to generate a lather, you'll notice it doesn't work well at all.
Once again, rub the bar on your hair or down your arms/legs (oiler zones) and the soap will begin to do its thing.
TALLOW, CASTOR, & OLIVE
TALLOW, CASTOR, & OLIVE
Tallow: Rich in collagen, vitamin A (retinol), vitamin D, vitamin K & K2 (K2 found predominantly in animal products), vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids (of the SN2 position, only found in animal derived DHA/EPA), conjugated linoleic acid and so much more.
Castor Oil: Promotes hair growth and ins extremely moisturizing. It is prized for its ability to enhance lather, creating a thick, creamy foam that’s stable and long-lasting, even when used in small amounts. Castor oil is also a humectant, which means it draws moisture to the skin. This helps to keep skin hydrated and prevents dryness, especially in cold or dry climates.
Olive Oil: It is renowned for its moisturizing properties. Rich in antioxidants, especially vitamin E, it helps to nourish and protect the skin. Mild and Gentle: Olive oil is gentle and non-irritating, making it a perfect choice for sensitive skin, babies, or those with skin conditions like eczema. Oive oil adds conditioning properties to soap, leaving the skin soft and smooth. It doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils, making it ideal for everyday use.

I love the simple ingredients for my hair and scalp. Slightly waxy feeling after wash but not too heavy. My hair feels great the next day.
I use the shampoo bar for everything, great lather, surprising amount of lather in my hair, which I love, cleans everywhere squeaky clean, hopefully another flavor or two some day… but it seems I’ve found my soap, thanks
Love this soap, cleans wonderfully and smells great!
I have only tried the Tallow shampoo bar. (Lavender). What a great and unique product. This Tallow shampoo leaves my hair exceptionally soft and hydrated. I have never used anything like it. The Lavender scent is mild and sweet. I just bought a few more bars for friends and stocking stuffers….
Lovely, using shampoo and body soap. Skin felt clean clear, silky, hydrated. Particularly liked the shampoo, has given my hair less fly-away even though my hair fiber is very thin. I liked that neither the soap nor the shampoo contained anything that stung my eyes. Good products.
Edit: I've been using these products for about a month now, still liking them, especially my hair which has more body to it now. Recommend combine use of the snakeoil shampoo, followed by small amount of Argan oil massaged into hair before gentle brushing - my hair is about 12" in length, which is why I do this.
